Past Tense
Past Tense is used to talk about the actions that happened in the past.
Past Tense
Past Tense is used to talk about the actions that happened in the past.
There are 4 four types of Past Tenses ;
Whew ! Looks complicated doesn’t it ? Well no ! We use
these, unknowingly everyday !
Simple Past Tense
As simple as the name, Simple Past Tense are the
actions in the past.
Example:
I studied for the exam.
He played with his sister.
The dog licked the boy.
They fed the deer.
Here, study (studied) , play (played) , lick
(licked)and feed(fed) are in Simple Past
Tense
Past Continuous Tense
The Past Continuous
Tense talks about an
action that began sometime in the past and continued for sometime.
Structure:
was/were + (verb + ing)
Example: They were playing with a ball
(were + (play + ing))
He was eating a sandwhich
(was + (eat + ing))
Past Perfect Tense
Past Perfect Tenses show an action that began sometime in the past and
completed in the past
Structure
Had + (past particle of) verb
Example : He had played chess with
Antony already.
My cousins had visited Alaska last
winter. Past Perfect Continuous Tense
Past Perfect Continuous Tense indicates the length of an action until the time of reference in the past.
Past Perfect Continuous Tense indicates the length of an action until the time of reference in the past.
Structure:
Had been + (verb + ing )
Example: You had been
waiting there
for more than two
hours when she finally arrived.
